The House of Mirrors
Cozumel has so much to offer in the tourist accommodation services but, to date, nothing that compares to this private residence, one of a kind and already famous among the islanders for its façade, distinctive decoration and its main gate with mirrors that originated its popular name of “Casa de los Espejos” or “House of Mirrors”. Located downtown only 200 yards from the sea, it allows you to experience the way natives live, the real Mexican cuisine and the music that permeates the atmosphere every night.
Our house was built in 1989 by Brazilian architect Douglas Cerqueira Gonçalves, who lived on the island for a few years and actually in the house while building it, therefore had the time to detail everything to a “state of art” level.
The property is located downtown Cozumel, just two small blocks away from the sea and from Punta Langosta, the main international peer and just three minute away from the Townhall and the main square; also walking distance to the bars, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping strip.
The property consists of a beautiful tropical garden with pool and waterfall. It has two unique living spaces, a large two story house at the far end of the property and a totally independent bungalow in the pool area.
The larger house has two bedrooms in the upper floor, each with its own private bathroom and terrace. Each bedroom is fully air conditioned with ceiling fans, TV/DVD player and Sky connection. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, a variety of pillows and cotton sheets. You can enjoy the large adjoining terrace to sunbath, morning coffee or afternoon Margaritas. The guest bedroom has a king size bed with cotton sheets and a variety of pillows, a TV/DVD player with Sky, its own on-suite bathroom and terrace.
In the ground floor, the living space has a working studio with a superb desk, CD/DVD, wonderful natural ventilation and lighting and certainly full Wi-Fi internet. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, oven, microwave, blender, coffeemaker, juice maker and all the necessary elements to cook, serve and clean. There’s also a washing machine and drying area.
The garden and pool deserve a special mention, there’s no other garden in Cozumel that offers such a unique atmosphere; it is basically a palm garden with different palm trees, air plants, bromeliad, orchids and other unique native plants that can’t be easily found elsewhere on the island, combined with beautiful Mayan stone steles and various wood, stone and metal modern sculptures. There are also large trees that create shaded areas for private ambiances. The swimming pool is composed by two pools, one large with an extraordinary venetian tile sculpture inside and a cascade that falls into a second pool where children or non swimmers can enjoy the fresh water. The pool also has a wheel chair ramp.
The house has unique and one of a kind furniture, most created specifically for and in the house and others that were brought from the family’s private collection in Mexico City. The property contains paintings and sculptures that are considered works of art and in any case create that unique atmosphere that makes of this house one of the most distinctive and unique in the island and in the Mayan Riviera.
Should you wish, your pets are also welcome, as long as you take full responsibility in case they destroy anything. The garden is quite large and dogs love running around it.
